Requirements for license renewal for RNs and LPNs Advanced Practice: Approved Providers: Failure to meet requirements:

All continuing education requirements may be completed by Home Study. Requirements must be met every year.

Continuing Education/Competency: One of the following:
• 14 Contact Hours every year
• National certification or re-certification related to nurses' practice role.
• One of the following:
-completion of a research project
-publication of a nursing article
-a professional nursing education presentation
-serving as a preceptor for student or new employee
• 7 hours of continuing education and a signed satisfactory nursing employment evaluation and
nursing employment competency validation

2 contact hours of HIV must be earned once every 10 years. Course must have a Kentucky Cabinet Approval Number or be offered by an approved Kentucky Provider. One time requirement: 3 Contact Hours in domestic violence.

ARNPs are required to earn 5 contact hours of approved CE in pharmacology.

Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners credentialed nurses must earn 5 contact hours of approved sexual assault CE every 2 years. Forensic medicine or domestic violence will meet this requirement.

 

In addition to the RN requirements , ARNPs are required to earn 5 contact hours of pharmacology education.

Continuing education: NURSING EDUCATION OF AMERICA® is approved by the Kentucky Board of Nursing: # 7-0052

Could be found in violation of practicing without a license with disciplinary action taken.
